Two appear in court over Malaysian student riot robbery

Two men facing charges relating to the robbery of a Malaysian student during the London riots have appeared at Wood Green Crown Court.

John Kafunda, 22, of Eastwood Road, Ilford, is charged with robbing Ashraf Rossli on 8 August during disorder in Barkingside.

Reece Donovan, 24, of Cross Road, Romford, is charged with robbery and theft.

Both men allegedly stole from Mr Rossli after pretending to help him.

They allegedly picked him up from the ground after he was attacked by someone else.

It is alleged Mr Donovan stole a portable Sony PlayStation and Nokia mobile phone from the student's bag.

Theft is an alternative charge and Mr Donovan cannot be convicted of both offences together.

A 17-year old from Ilford, who cannot be named, is charged with wounding with intent over the initial attack.

All three will appear on 21 November at Wood Green Crown Court for a plea and case management hearing.

Both Mr Kafunda and Mr Donovan were remanded in custody while the 17-year old was released on bail.
