A man has admitted at the Old Bailey to killing his girlfriend by putting a plastic bag over her head.

The body of Beata Slomiana, 33, was found at her home in Ballards Lane, Finchley, north London, on 8 September 2010, 10 days after she died.

Asaad Abdel-All, 31, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

He was remanded in custody until 16 December for pre-sentence reports.

The day after Ms Slomiana was found, her boyfriend, who was a former school caretaker, admitted himself to a psychiatric hospital.

On the day she died, he had been seen jumping into the pond of a nearby park wearing only his underpants.

Crispin Aylett QC, prosecuting, said Abdel-All thought his girlfriend had been trying to poison him.
