Man dies after attack near St Johns Road, Battersea

A man has died after being beaten in south-west London, the Metropolitan Police said.

Richard Ward, 37, was found with head injuries close to St Johns Road, Battersea, at 23:45 GMT on Monday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers believe Mr Ward, from Battersea, was attacked by a number of people, who left him on the street.

No-one has been arrested in connection with the attack.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as head injuries.

Det Ch Insp Cliff Lyons has appealed for information from people who were in or near Severus Road and St John's Hill between 22:00 GMT and midnight.

He added: "We are still trying to establish the circumstances of this incident and want to hear from anyone who has information."
