Man critical after attack on Romford street

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after he and his friend were attacked in the early hours on a street in east London.

The 21-year-old suffered a fractured skull and his friend, 22, suffered a fractured jaw and severe facial injury.

Police believe the two men were involved in a dispute with a group of between six to eight men at about 03:15 GMT in Exchange Street, Romford.

Two men, aged 22 and 25, were arrested close to the scene of the attack.

The 21-year-old remains in hospital but his friend was discharged after receiving treatment.

Det Supt Sara Yems said: "Although it was the early hours, the area was still busy and we need people to come forward."
