Tied-up man dies after Barnehurst burglary

A 64-year-old man has died after he was tied up during a burglary at his home in south east London.

Scotland Yard said burglars entered the Barnehurst home of Edward Syrad at 22:00 GMT on Wednesday.

A woman, who did not suffer serious injuries, was also tied up and some of their property was stolen.

Emergency services were called about 25 minutes later however Mr Syrad was pronounced dead at the scene. A murder investigation has been launched.

Det Ch Insp Cliff Lyons said: "One line of inquiry is burglary although at this early stage of the investigation we are keeping an open mind with regards to a motive.

"We would appeal for anyone who may have seen or heard anything, or has any information regarding this murder, to come forward and assist police."

A post-mortem examination is yet to take place and no arrests have been made.

Scotland Yard said the woman was taken to hospital and has since been released.
