Pregnant woman in Kilburn street stabbing

A heavily pregnant woman fended off an apparent attempt to stab her in the stomach, police have said.

The victim, 36, was near Kilburn Tube Station in Kilburn, north-west London, on Monday when she was passed by three teenagers.

One of them then grabbed her around the neck and began to stab a blade into her stomach area "violently and aggressively", police said.

She received cuts to her hand but the baby was not injured.

Serrated blade

Police said the suspects were black and aged between 15 and 20.

The knife was about 7.5cm (3in) long and brass-coloured with a serrated edge.

PC Paul Connelly, of Brent Police, said: "This was a deeply traumatic and horrific ordeal for the victim and we are treating this incident seriously.

"I believe that there would have been many people in the area at the time who may have seen or even heard the events leading up to this assault.

"I urge anyone with information to contact us or call Crimestoppers anonymously."
