A 93-year-old man who was hit by a driver in south-east London who failed to stop, has died of his injuries, the Metropolitan Police said.

Ernest Maloney, 93, was attempting to cross Grove Lane in Camberwell on the morning of Wednesday 15 February when he was hit, receiving serious head and internal injuries.

He died on Sunday, the Met announced earlier.

His great nephew, Robert Rolfe, said his family was "devastated".

The car involved is believed to be a new model dark grey Volkswagen Golf, said police.

Det Insp Mark Cam said the collision would have left damage to the front of the car.

He said: "If you work in the motor industry and have repaired a car matching this description in the past two weeks, or if you know of someone who has stopped driving a similar vehicle, I would ask that you contact us."
