'Huge boost' to Scotland Yard PCSO recruitment drive

Scotland Yard says it has received a "huge boost" to its commitment to visible policing as some 3,700 people have applied to become police community support officers (PCSOs).

The force is looking to recruit an extra 500 PCSOs by September, to replace current PCSOs who have started training to become police constables.

The recruitment drive began on 24 February.

The force has now reached its maximum number of applicants.

Assistant Commissioner Simon Byrne said: "We are working hard to increase the numbers of staff we commit to neighbourhood policing across London in the coming months."
