Man suffers burns after Denmark Hill workshop 'explosion'

A man has been taken to hospital with serious burns after reports of an explosion at a south London workshop.

Emergency crews were called to Denmark Hill, in Camberwell, at about 14:20 BST when a blast was heard.

A woman was treated for the effects of smoke inhalation while another woman had problems with her hearing, London Ambulance Service said.

London Fire Brigade said the building, believed to be a workshop, has been damaged and crews remain at the scene.

Brixton fire station manager Bruce Grain said: "We were called to reports of a fire and explosion.

"The building has been severely damaged so we are not sure at this stage what the building was being used for.

"As soon as it's safe to do so, our fire investigators will be working to establish exactly what happened."

Up to 30 firefighters went to the scene. About half of the ground floor has been damaged, LFB said.
