Man dies on Woolwich railway following police stop
A man has died in a railway tunnel in south-east London after the vehicle he was travelling in was stopped by police.
The police said a body was found in a tunnel near Woolwich Dockyard Station in Woolwich at about 22:20 BST on Sunday.
A vehicle he was travelling in with two other men initially failed to stop for police.
When the car stopped in Belson Road, a man was seen running into the tunnel.
Scotland Yard said the Met's Directorate of Professional Standard had been informed as a matter of course and an inquiry into the circumstances of the incident is under way.
The police, who wanted to stop the vehicle "regarding the manner of its driving", were in a marked Territorial Support Group carrier, said the police.
The Territorial Support Group has a role in anti-terrorism, domestic extremism, spontaneous disorder and priority crime.
Two men were detained and remain in custody.
