Man arrested after pensioner raped in Chessington

A woman in her 70s has been raped in south-west London.

Police were called to reports of a burglary and rape at a residential address in Chessington on Wednesday morning.

The Metropolitan Police said a man was arrested on Wednesday evening and remains in custody at a south London police station.

The woman was taken to a south London hospital, where she is continuing to be treated.

A spokesman for the Met Police said her condition was "not life-threatening".

Officers from the sexual offences exploitation and child abuse command, based at Sutton, are investigating the incident.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to call the police non-emergency line on 101 or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
