A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed in east London.

Mariana Popa, 24, from Romania, was found in Ilford Lane, Ilford, near the junction with Loxford Lane, at 00:15 GMT on 29 October. Police believe she had been working as a prostitute.

She was taken to hospital, where she died from a stab wound to the chest.

The 20-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday night and remains in police custody.

Last week, a 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the stabbing but was later released with no further action.

The Metropolitan Police has also released three images of a man it wants to trace, who may hold "crucial information" about the killing.

Det Ch Insp Sheila Stewart said the man in the CCTV images was "in the precise area at the time Mariana was attacked and killed".
