Man Tasered and held on suspicion of attempted murder

A man has been Tasered by police and arrested on suspicion of attempting to murder an officer in south London.

The Met Police said officers went to Falcon Road in Battersea at about 12:20 GMT after reports of a man carrying a knife and threatening passers-by.

The 31-year-old suspect was taken to a south London hospital with minor injuries.

He was later discharged from hospital and taken into custody at a south London police station.

A police officer suffered minor injuries and four knives were recovered from the scene, the Met said.

Firefighters based at a nearby fire station called police after they were alerted by passers-by.

When police arrived at the scene the man was hostile - striking the window of a police car and threatening officers, police said.

    The southbound Blackwall Tunnel has been closed since 02:00 because of problems with the extractor fans. There is no estimate for when it will reopen.

    The closure is causing short queues on the A13 at times and is adding to the delays at the Woolwich Ferry which is only running a single boat as it is a bank holiday.

    "I have an eight-week baby at home and I was told this morning that nothing will happen today and they will probably resort to either a lorry full of water bottles or a big water tank bought to the premises.

    "I have been to Sainsbury to get 17 packs of water to make sure we have enough to sterilise all the baby feeding equipment."

    Hundreds left without water 10:03: Jason Rosam Journalist, BBC London

    Hundreds of residents in the SW8 postcode have been without water for the last 12 hours after a water main burst on the Wandsworth Road last night. Most of those affected live in the Lambeth borough.

    Thames Water arrived at the scene at 02:30, but said the burst pipe is Wandsworth Council's responsibility. The council has apologised and said it has contacted the water board to carry out the repairs.

    A 24-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after being attacked by two men on Oxendon Street, Westminster, in the early hours of Saturday.

    Police found the man was found with head injuries. He had been on a night out with friends and family when he was punched in the head and kicked, police said.
