A cyclist has died in a collision with a car in London.

Passers-by went to the aid of the rider, a man believed to be aged in his 30s, after the crash on London Bridge at 19:30 BST on Saturday.

A doctor passing by started mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and a member of the public ran to nearby Monument station to retrieve a defibrillator, but the cyclist died at the scene.

He is the seventh cyclist to be killed on London's roads this year.

City of London Police said the road was closed in both directions after the incident, before being reopened later.

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said the first paramedics arrived on the scene six minutes after an emergency call was received and an air ambulance was also dispatched.

"Despite the best efforts of our staff and members of the public at the scene, the patient sadly died," he said.
