Greenwich petrol station arson suspect arrested

A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an incident where a fire was deliberately started at a petrol station in south-east London.

The suspect handed himself in after police released CCTV footage of the arson at a BP garage in Greenwich, on 30 September.

Footage also shows a member of the public using a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze.

The arrested man remains in custody at south-east London police station.

The CCTV footage shows the arsonist walking up to a pump before squirting fuel on the floor

He then places an item - possibly a piece of cloth or paper - in the pump before setting it alight before running off.

The arrested man, from Islington, north London, handed himself in the early hours of Monday.
