Hackney man, 84, attacked with cricket bat in his home

An elderly man is being treated in hospital after being assaulted with a cricket bat in his east London home.

The 84-year-old man was repeatedly hit with the bat in his home in Lindisfarne Way, Hackney, on 31 October, Scotland Yard said.

Police are appealing for information to trace suspect John Burnham, 44. of no fixed address , who is described as white and approximately 6ft (1.82m).

Members of the public are advised not to approach him and should call 999.

"The 84-year-old victim was hit a number of times with a cricket bat," a police spokesman said.

"He was taken by London Ambulance Service to an east London hospital. He remains in hospital but will hopefully be discharged soon."
