Man charged after City of London officer threatened with machete

A man has been charged after an officer was threatened with a machete following a raid on a jewellers in the City of London.

Police and armed officers were called to the incident on Liverpool Street just after 14:30 GMT on Thursday.

Three men on mopeds reportedly used sledgehammers to smash the shop windows before running towards Gravel Lane.

One man was arrested and has been charged with conspiracy to rob and threaten a person with a knife.

He was remanded in custody.

Two other men remain unaccounted for.
