Eccles Metrolink service suspended after derailment

Metrolink services have been suspended on the Eccles line after a tram was derailed at Harbour City.

The tram veered off the line and crashed into a pole that damaged overhead cables after a points failure.

A spokesman said repairs were likely to continue throughout Wednesday morning's rush hour and replacement buses would be in operation.

Metrolink tickets are being accepted on the 33 bus service between Piccadilly Gardens and Eccles Interchange

Technicians are carrying out repairs to the equipment with the intention of services resuming within the next two days, once site investigations and rectification work have been completed.

An investigation into the cause of the derailment is to be carried out.
