Doctors treating a toddler from Oldham, who suffered head injuries when he was hit by a refuse lorry, have moved him off the critical list.

Thomas Wilshaw, two, was sitting in a pram when it was struck by the lorry at the junction of Huddersfield Road and Ripponden Road on 27 August.

He was treated on the intensive care ward at Manchester Children's Hospital but has been moved to a general ward.

His parents said he is feeding well and "recovering at a steady pace".

Thomas' mother Laura Wood, 20, and father Ben Wilshaw, 24, said: "We wish everyone to know we are very grateful for all the messages of hope, cards and flowers received.

"We would ask that people please respect our privacy in these difficult times."
