Stockport student dies after balcony fall in Nepal

A student from Greater Manchester has died after falling from a hotel balcony in Nepal while travelling around Asia.

James Raphael had been in Kathmandu with a group of friends when he fell to his death.

The popular 24-year-old was described as "very funny and intelligent" by teachers at his former school, Bramhall High in Stockport.

The Foreign Office confirmed his death but could not give an exact date of when the incident took place.

Clare Lewis, pastoral head at Bramhall High, said: "We are devastated to hear this tragic news and our thoughts are with James' family and friends at this difficult time."

He was studying at Leeds University before he decided to take time out to travel.

Another one of this former teachers added: "He had great self-awareness and was an excellent listener."
