Eighteen arrests at Manchester Utd v Liverpool match

Eighteen people have been arrested during the Manchester United v Liverpool FA Cup tie in Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said earlier it had joined forces with Merseyside Police to try to avert any trouble.

A police spokesman said the arrests were for public order and criminal damage offences. He said they had "had more for other games".

The match, which ended 1-0 to United, was Kenny Dalglish's first since replacing Roy Hodgson at Liverpool.

Match commander Ch Supt Mark Roberts said that "risk groups" from both teams had been identified before the fixture and added that "an effective policing operation" had prevented "any serious disorder".
