A 21-year-old man killed when he was hit by a car in Manchester was the "life and soul", his family has said.

Daniel Lee, from Wythenshawe, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on Plymouth Grove, Longsight, in the early hours.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the 23-year-old driver of a Volkswagen Golf had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The man remains in custody for questioning.

The road was closed for investigations after the crash but has since reopened.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw a grey VW Golf being driven around the area at about 0100 GMT to contact them.

In a statement released through police, Mr Lee's family paid tribute to him, saying: "He was the life and soul of every situation.

"No-one had a bad word for him and if anyone was down, he could put a smile on their face."
