An elderly man has died in a fire at a bungalow in Greater Manchester.

The 70-year-old was discovered by fire crews in an upstairs bedroom of the dormer bungalow on Keepers Drive, Norden, Rochdale, just before 0700 GMT.

A passer-by alerted a neighbour who called emergency services to the fire, which started in a downstairs room.

A fire service spokesman said it was believed the man was overcome by smoke. An investigation is now under way.

Police said the man's death was not being treated as suspicious. The victim's next of kin have been informed.
