Masked intruder kicks Wigan pensioner to floor

An elderly woman has been kicked to the floor by one of two masked intruders who broke into her home in Wigan.

The 73-year-old was attacked in the hall of her house on Edge Green Lane, Golborne, on Wednesday night by two men who broke in through a back door.

They continued to assault her and demand cash as she lay on the floor and only stopped when her dog became aggressive.

The men ran off and police said it was not known if anything was stolen.

'Very rare'

The woman is recovering in hospital and police said her injuries were not serious.

Both men were described as white and were wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

Det Con Kevin Byrne, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "These two men have beaten up a lone pensioner and I want to reassure the community we are determined to identify them and bring them to justice.

"I am keen to hear from anyone who might have seen two men in the area at the time of this incident or thinks they might know who is responsible.

"It is very rare for something like this to happen and I want to reassure the local community that there is no cause for alarm."
