Firefighters attacked by youths at Salford flat blaze

Firefighters have been attacked by a group of youths as they tried to bring a blaze under control at a tower block in Salford.

The fire service said missiles were thrown at crews as they extinguished the fire in a rubbish chute on the building's sixth floor in Pendleton.

The blaze, at 1940 GMT on Saturday, left the apartment block smoke logged between the eighth and 22nd floors.

The service said no-one was injured in the attacks or as a result of the fire.

An investigation is under way.
