A motorcyclist has died after crashing into a lamppost in Greater Manchester.

Police were called to Walker Road in Winton, Salford, just after 1620 GMT on Monday afternoon after reports of a collision.

Officers found Darren Barry had crashed into a lamppost and fencing. No other vehicles were involved.

The 35-year-old, from Stretford, was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. Any witnesses are asked to contact police.

His wife Tracey said: "Darren was a wonderful husband and father who lived for his family.

"The amount of people who came to hospital last night showed just how popular he was."
