Manchester Palace Hotel attack victim critical

A man is being treated in hospital for serious head injuries being attacked in Manchester City centre.

Greater Manchester Police said the 36-year-old was assaulted outside the Palace Hotel on Oxford Street in the early hours.

He has been taken to Salford Royal Hospital where his condition is described as critical.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody.

Investigations into the circumstances of the attack, which happened at about 0115 BST, are ongoing.

Det Sgt Darren Scarr, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "There were a number of people around Oxford Street at the time this assault took place and I would ask anyone who witnessed what happened to get in touch with us.

"You may have gone home from your night out, woken up today and remember seeing something last night.

"A man has been left in a critical condition following this incident and I am determined to make sure that justice is done for him."
