The funeral of one of the North West of England's best-known television personalities has taken place in Greater Manchester.

Bob Greaves worked as a presenter for Granada television from 1967 to the late 1990s, and was the face of its news programme, Granada Reports.

He died, aged 76, on 14 March after a long battle with cancer.

Family, friends and former colleagues gathered for the service at Timperley methodist church on Friday.

They included his wife, Sonia, and ex-colleagues Stuart Hall and Gordon Burns.

Mr Greaves began his career as a newspaper journalist on the Sale Guardian before moving into television, where he presented an estimated 12,000 live programmes.

He was the face of Granada Reports when it launched in 1973 and stepped down in the 1990s.

In retirement, he was a regular customer at Cafe Nero on School Road in Sale, where staff said he would "hold court" discussing the day's news with other customers.
