Woman struck by lorry in Chadderton dies

A woman has died after she was struck by a lorry in Greater Manchester, police have said.

The 46-year-old was on the northbound carriageway of Greengate in Chadderton, Oldham, at 1030 BST on Tuesday when the incident took place.

Police said she was taken to hospital but died a short time later.

Officers are trying to work out what happened and are appealing for anyone who saw the woman, or who witnessed the crash, to contact them.

Sgt Lee Westhead, of the Road Policing Unit, said: "We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the collision and I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or spoken to the woman before she sadly died - she was wearing a distinctive white coat when this incident happened.

"We are doing all we can to establish how the collision occurred and are appealing to the public to help us."
