A man who was found dying in a Bolton street died as a result of blunt force to his head and neck, post-mortem tests have confirmed.

James Tierney, 41, was found with serious facial injuries in Devon Street, Farnworth at about 0520 BST on Friday. He died shortly afterwards.

Three men, aged 21, 20 and 23, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police.

Det Ch Insp Joanne Rawlinson said: "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding James' death.

"If anyone heard or saw anything that can help I would urge them to get in touch.

"I am also keen to hear from anyone who saw James before he was attacked.

"The investigation is ongoing so it would not be helpful or appropriate to speculate about motive at this time but I would reassure the community that there are extra officers in the area."
