Manchester nurse denies stealing ward drugs

A nurse accused of stealing large amounts of a class A drug from the hospital wards she worked on has been granted bail.

Girija Sundar, 45, denied 28 counts of stealing large quantities of the Class A controlled drug pethidine between September 2008 and March 2010.

She is alleged to have stolen the drug from the gynaecology wards at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester.

A trial date was set for 15 August at Manchester Crown Court.

Prosecutors allege she either gave excessive amounts of the drug to 10 patients or she stole them and falsified the drugs register to cover up the theft.
