Couple robbed in Salford sheltered accommodation

An elderly couple have been attacked and robbed at knifepoint in their sheltered accommodation in Salford.

Two men, both armed with large knives, broke into the flat on Half Edge Lane, Monton, and confronted the couple in the early hours.

The 87-year-old man was pushed to the floor and threatened as his disabled wife, aged 85, witnessed the attack.

A member of staff called police after hearing a noise and going to check on the couple. The men then fled.

Greater Manchester Police described the couple's ordeal as "terrifying" and said both had been left shaken.

'Shocking incident'

The burglars are described as white men who both had their faces covered.

One was about 6ft tall and slim while his accomplice was about 5ft 7in tall and stocky.

Det Insp Amanda Delamore said: "This was a shocking incident which has left the victims terribly shaken up.

"Luckily the man only received minor injuries but his ordeal could have been much worse had the offenders not been interrupted.

"Incidents like this are rare in the Monton area. I would appeal to any potential witnesses or anyone with any information to get in touch with us."
