Police patrol Oldham parks for nuisance dogs

Parks and public spaces in Oldham are being patrolled by police officers in response to complaints about nuisance dogs.

The patrols will particularly target Alexandra Park and Werneth Park where there have been increased reports of uncontrolled dogs.

The officers will be reminding owners to clean up after their animals and keep them on a lead near children.

Parents are also being told to keep children away from unfamiliar dogs.

Pc Jason Norton said: "The majority of dog owners are responsible, but not everyone likes animals and some people can be especially frightened of dogs, especially if they are left to run free without a lead.

"Dogs can also become excitable around children and we want to ensure that everyone can use parks and public spaces safely.

"Parents and guardians should also make sure children and young people do not approach, or try to pet, unfamiliar dogs without asking the owner's permission first."
