Woman raped by burglar at her north Manchester home

A woman has been raped at knifepoint by a burglar who broke into her north Manchester home.

The woman woke up in the bedroom of her home in Crumpsall at 0330 BST on Sunday to find a man standing over her brandishing a knife.

The man then raped her and left the house. He was described as black, about 5ft 5in (1.65m), in his late teens or early 20s, with short dark hair.

He was wearing a black jacket, baggy jeans and black ankle boots.

'Unimaginable ordeal'

Det Insp Andrew Naismith, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "The woman is traumatised after her ordeal having been subjected to a prolonged attack in her own home.

"What she has been through is unimaginable - her home and privacy have been invaded by this man and she is understandably distraught.

He added: "Our focus is now on trying to catch the offender as soon as possible so I want to appeal to anyone who knows anything or has any information that will assist our investigation to come forward.

"That one piece of information which could seem insignificant to you could be crucial to us so please call us."

He said police were treating the attack as an isolated incident but urged residents to be vigilant.
