Soldier Steven Higgins shot in Salford shooting

A 27-year-old man who was seriously hurt in a shooting in Salford had served as a soldier in Afghanistan, it has emerged.

Steven Higgins was shot twice in the attack in Bolton Road, Pendlebury, at 2205 BST on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

Greater Manchester Police believe the shooting may be connected to a dispute in the Lord Nelson pub, also in Bolton Road, shortly beforehand.

A spokesman urged anyone with any information to contact police or Crimestoppers anonymously.
