Police investigating the shooting of a 27-year-old soldier in Salford have released an image of a Land Rover they want to trace.

Steven Higgins was shot and injured twice in the attack in Bolton Road, Pendlebury, at 2205 BST on Saturday.

The dark blue Defender was seen in the area before and after the shooting.

Three men, aged 24, 25 and 31, who were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder have been bailed until October pending further inquiries.

Mr Higgins who has served in Afghanistan is being treated in hospital for back injuries and is in a serious but stable condition.

Det Ch Insp Jon Chadwick said: "We are keen to trace this Land Rover Defender, which was seen driving around the Bolton Road and Coronation Street area near the time of the shooting.

"If anyone saw this vehicle on Saturday evening, or if you know of its whereabouts now, then please get in touch with us."

The Land Rover has an aluminium hardback on the pick-up and a distinctive snorkel exhaust on the front.
