Woman fined for faking robbery in Greater Manchester

A woman has been fined for wasting police time after faking a robbery at her home in Greater Manchester.

Police were called to Mayfair Avenue, Radcliffe at 0415 BST on Tuesday, where a 28-year-old said she had been tied up and robbed by intruders.

The woman, who had rope loosely wrapped around her arms, said that the robbers had stolen her laptop computer.

Police later found the laptop at a nearby Cash Generator store, where the woman had sold it last month.

She was issued with a fixed penalty notice for wasting police time.

Det Insp John Mazzolai said: "I have no idea what prompted the woman to make this false report.

"It has wasted our time and no doubt caused concern to neighbours who would have seen police at the house in the early hours of the morning."
