Crash closes M6 between Standish and Orrell

Part of the M6 was closed after a van overturned, causing long delays for rush hour drivers.

One person suffered serious head injuries in the incident between junction 27 at Standish and junction 26 at the Orrell Interchange.

The motorway was closed southbound after the crash at 06:45 BST and drivers were being warned of tailbacks of up to seven miles.

All carriageways had reopened by 11:00 BST.

Police and the Highways Agency were called to the scene and the North West Motorway Policing Group is now investigating.

The disruption affected motorists in Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside.
