Children shot with BB gun in Heywood

Two children - one aged four - and a lorry driver were shot with a BB gun within days of each other in Heywood, Greater Manchester.

The four-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the face with a BB gun by an eight-year-old girl on 19 August. He suffered a minor facial injury.

Two days earlier a lorry driver was hit on the wrist when youths fired a gun through his cab window on Peel Lane.

An 11-year-old girl was injured in the same spot an hour later.

She was shot in the neck by a 10-year-old boy on Peel Lane at about 19:15 BST.

Greater Manchester Police is warning people of the dangers of playing with BB guns.

PC Fran Powell said: "BB guns are not toys and I cannot stress enough how dangerous it is to fire such a weapon at another person.

"It is only by chance that no-one has been injured and I want children and their parents to be aware of these incidents before someone suffers a more serious injury."
