Homeless man found dead in Oldham warehouse: Man held

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a homeless man who was found dead in an Oldham warehouse.

Matthew Alexander Barrett, 38, who lived in the Oldham area, was found in a derelict warehouse on Partington Street just after 06:45 BST on Tuesday.

Post-mortem tests found he had died from multiple injuries.

A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday and he remains in police custody for questioning.

Det Ch Insp Pete Jackson said: "The small disused warehouse where Matthew was found is believed to be somewhere he had been sleeping.

"We are asking for people that have any knowledge about what has happened to come forward and speak to us to help with our inquiries.

"It is not believed that Matthew had any relatives, but we are also appealing for anyone that may have known him to get in touch."
