Man shot dead at Wellington pub in Salford
A man has been shot dead at a pub in Greater Manchester.
The 37-year-old was shot at the Wellington pub in Regent Road, Salford, in the early hours, police said.
He was taken to Salford Royal Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. Staff at the hospital then alerted police, a spokesman said.
Greater Manchester Police has started a murder inquiry and anyone with any information has been asked to get in touch.
'No broader threat'
Ch Supt Kevin Mulligan, divisional commander for Salford, said: "This is a terrible loss of life in which a man has been gunned down while at the pub.
"While there will understandably be concern in the community about this, the initial assessment is that we believe there is not a broader threat to the community.
"We now have a team of officers from the major incident team talking to witnesses and conducting inquiries, but we believe the key to this lies with the people in the pub at the time of the incident."
He said officers particularly wanted to speak to anyone who was in the pub in the lead-up to the incident.
"I understand your concerns about speaking to the police, but we have a number of ways of ensuring you will be protected," he said.
"Please bear in mind that a family is mourning the loss of a life today and your information could help them get the answers they need."
