Girl, eight, hurt in hit-and-run in Ince

An eight-year-old girl has been seriously hurt in a hit and run crash in Greater Manchester.

The girl was struck by a small or medium sized silver car in Kendal Road, Ince, Wigan at about 18:45 BST on Monday while playing with friends.

The driver fled the scene. Shortly afterwards a second silver car stopped and the driver lifted the girl out of the road and called for help.

The girl, from Ince, is in hospital with a broken leg.

'Deserve information'

PC David Newton, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "We are making inquiries to try to trace the driver of the car, but we need the public to help us with our investigation.

"If you saw a silver car in the Kendal Road or Belle Green Road areas at about the time of the collision, or perhaps even caught a partial registration number, we need to speak to you.

"I do not want to speculate on why the driver did not stop, but it is important we find this driver not least because the girl's family deserve to know what happened.

"If you were the driver and you are reading or hearing this, then please do the right thing and get in touch with police immediately."
