A car that crashed through the wall of a house in Manchester and severed a gas pipe has forced people to leave nearby homes.

A Lexus crashed into the terraced house on Rochdale Road, Collyhurst, at 04:50 BST, destroying railings and smashing a supporting wall.

Police said a number of people were asked to leave their homes, while the gas supply was made safe.

National Grid engineers are working at the scene.

Some residents have returned to their homes, police said.
