A 22-year-old woman is in a critical condition after two cars crashed head-on in Manchester.

She was one of seven people injured when her Citroen Saxo collided with a Saab 93 estate in Middleton Road, Crumpsall, on Saturday afternoon.

She was cut free from the wreckage and taken to hospital, along with three other female passengers in the Citroen.

Three men in the Saab were also taken to hospital and arrested in connection with the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, at about 12:35 BST, is being urged to contact Greater Manchester Police.

Sgt Lee Westhead said: "We are working closely with Bury CID and officers from north Manchester to establish the events leading up to the collision and the collision itself.

"I am very interested to speak to anyone who saw a silver Saab 93 estate car in the Crumpsall area at around midday on Thursday 25 September 2011 or who witnessed the actual collision.

"This collision has left at least one young woman with potentially life-changing injuries and I am sure the public will want to do all they can to assist us."
