Murder arrest after Audenshaw man, 74, dies

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 74-year old man, who suffered serious head injuries, died in hospital in Greater Manchester.

Police answering a report of an assault discovered the victim at a flat in Hobson Court, Audenshaw, at 14:30 BST on Sunday.

He died in the early hours, a police spokesman said. A post-mortem examination will take place later.

A 60-year-old man is being held for questioning in police custody.

Det Ch Insp Chris Duffy said: "While this death will cause some concern within the community, I want to reassure people that we believe this was an isolated incident.

"We now have a team of detectives talking to witnesses and conducting inquiries and we want to hear from anyone who knows anything about yesterday's tragic events."
