Armed robbers in 'cannabis farm mix-up' in Newton Heath

Armed robbers who targeted a family home in Greater Manchester had mistaken it for a cannabis farm, police said.

Two men, one armed with a stun gun and one with a hammer, broke into a house on Edlington Walk, Newton Heath, on Wednesday.

They threatened eight people with the weapons while demanding to know where the drugs were then stole a small amount of cash and mobile phones.

Police have asked anyone with any information to contact them.

Det Con James Coles said: "We believe this robbery was a case of mistaken identity, as the offenders were looking for a cannabis farm.

"However, once they realised it was the wrong address they did not stop."

One of the robbers was described as white, in his late 20s or early 30s and of a stocky build, while the other was described as black and slim.
