Manchester's Ryan Ward who took boy, 3, on motorbike 'a disgrace'

A man who rode an off-road motorbike through Manchester with a three-year-old boy sitting on the petrol tank has been branded a "disgrace" by police.

Ryan Ward was filmed riding through Harpurhey by officers from the force helicopter.

The boy, who was not wearing a helmet, was seen sitting behind the handlebars.

At Manchester Crown Court, Ward, 23, from Manchester, admitted child cruelty and dangerous driving. He will be sentenced in November.

At one point, Ward was filmed pulling a wheelie with the child on board during the ride in March this year.

'Disregard for law'

However, Greater Manchester Police footage was only released after Ward pleaded guilty to an unconnected offence of possessing a shotgun.

Referring to his behaviour on the motorbike, Ch Insp Donna Allen said: "It's absolutely disgraceful.

"It frightens me to death to see somebody blatantly having such disregard for the law with a child on the petrol tank.

"It's awful and doesn't bear thinking about."

After pleading guilty, Ward was warned by the judge to expect a substantial jail term when he is sentenced.
