Sale road crash death cyclist named as Joe Vernon

A cyclist who died following a collision in Greater Manchester has been named as Joe Vernon from Sale.

Mr Vernon, 66, was riding a bicycle on Temple Road, off Northenden Road, at about 00:10 BST on Saturday when he was in collision with a Honda Civic.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.

A man was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink and causing death by dangerous driving.

The 23-year-old has been bailed until 15 November pending further police inquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them.
