Oldham flat murder: Man arrested

A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Oldham.

Paramedics treated Mbongeni Ndhlovu, 28, for a head injury after police were called to a flat in Shaw Street on Tuesday, but he died soon afterwards.

Officers had been called to the address on Sunday, to reports of fighting. Mr Ndhlovu was injured but refused to co-operate with police, a spokesman said.

Other men present were abusive and refused to give information, he added.

Det Ch Insp Denise Worth, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "We are looking at whether Mbongeni's death is linked to the incident on Sunday morning and we now know there were a number of people in attendance at the nearby St Mary's Church on Ruth Street.

"I am very keen to speak to anyone who was at that service and who perhaps might have witnessed a disturbance sometime on Sunday morning.

"I know local residents will be concerned but I want to reassure them we do not believe there is any threat to anyone else and I have a team of extremely experienced detectives working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Mbongeni's death."
