Woman throttled and sexually assaulted in Stockport

A woman walking home in Stockport was held round the neck until she passed out and then sexually assaulted, Greater Manchester Police have said.

The 28-year-old was approached and grabbed by a man while she was walking along Reservoir Road near to Edgeley Park at about 03:00 GMT.

The man stole her mobile phone after assaulting her.

Police said the man was described as wearing a blue hooded top and spoke with a local accent.

Det Insp Julia Bowden said: "We currently have a team of officers working on this case and I would like to reassure the community we are doing all we can to try and find out who is responsible for this horrible crime.

"We do need the public's help and I would urge anyone who may have been walking in or around the Alexandra Park area and saw the attack or saw a man acting suspiciously to contact us as soon as possible."
